Home Tour!

Hello and welcome!

When we moved overseas, we came with 13 suitcases and that's it.  We had sold everything we had (except for keepsake items) and when we got here we had to start from scratch (or should I say we got to start from scratch).  It has taken us weeks to get set up and we finally feel like we are settling in and it's becoming a home to us!

Grab a cup of chai and come and take a look around...

Lucy and Brayden's room...

We actually have 2 bathrooms but one is a western toilet and the other is a "squatty".  No, we don't use it although we have had to in public.  But when guests come, that is what they use.  Locals like using these in public places because they think it is cleaner than sitting where everyone else has had their bum ha!

The western bathroom... (and the laundry room)

The kitchen (where I spend most of my time!)...

Jetting off from the kitchen is a huge glassed-in back porch.  We haven't done anything to this yet really because it has been too cold to spend a lot of time out here.  But when our income tax money comes in we plan to dress it up and we plan to spend ALOT of time out here when the weather gets a little warmer.  Most locals spend their whole summer out here eating family meals, drinking chai etc.  This is one of the two porches we have.

When you walk out of the kitchen, you walk down this long hall to the front door and our 2 living rooms.

This is the front foyer area.  To the left is the sitting room (we call it our sunroom) and to the right you have the "squatty" and the salon (formal living room).

This is the squatty bathroom.  To the left of the sink is another closed off bathroom with a squatty potty.  It is not just a hole in the ground for those wondering, it is tiled and ceramic.

This is the closet area where we keep all shoes and jackets.  Here NOBODY wears shoes in the house.  A lot of times you will see mounds of shoes on racks outside the door.

This second balcony is off of the smaller sitting room which you will see in the pics below.  This is where the kids play ball and roller skate ha!  We will eventually do something to this space too but we haven't yet.

This is our smaller sitting room (also guest room...Grandparents this pull out couch awaits you!!!!).  We spent a lot of time in here studying language and doing our Bible studies. The curtain for this room has been ordered and is being imported from Spain so it has taken a couple of weeks to get it in.   When I picked it out I had no idea I was importing from Spain ha!  I just picked out what I liked and then he told me that.

This is Karis' room.  She wanted a bunk bed so bad and then when we found this one with the desk underneath it she went crazy.  She has really enjoyed this work space to do her crafting.

This is our room...

Off from the long hall that leads to the front door, we have this bedroom hallway.  The room to the immediate right is the restroom, left door is Brayden and Lucy's room, our room is far right and Karis' room is straight back.

This (and the kitchen) is the most important room in any house here in CA.  It is what they call the "salon" or the place where you entertain all guests. Most locals will fix this place up with FANCY furniture and even crystal lights, fancy draperies and will keep this room spotless, even closing off the door and not letting the family use it until guests arrive so that it ALWAYS ready for an unexpected guest that drops in.  Because they do...all the time.  And you better be ready to whip something out of the kitchen along with chai too.  Their hospitality is amazing!
For the most part the room is finished although I have nothing on the walls yet.  Wall decorations are VERY hard to find here and very expensive so that has come last.  Maybe eventually I will find a mirror to go over the hutch and I may have to make a few things to go on the wall.

Thanks for visiting!  Now we want to see you in person!  Come visit us!

  1. Love everything!!! Y'all have really made it awesome!!! Have to say, I'm totally on board with the removal of shoes. We do that here to and I wish our guests would too, but it'd be rude to ask--here! Ha!
